If you are looking for a few FREE things to do in Utah this weekend, well there is good news! On Saturday, September 25, it is both FREE Museum Day and FREE National Parks Day.

museum day 2010

This is a great way to see some sites that you have not seen before or revisit some of your Utah favorites! Let us know which is your favorite and what you plan to see! It looks like the participating museums are found all across the state.

From this list, we like the Ogden Union Station Museums.  The Railroad one specifically is very fun for our whole family, but they do have quite a nice car and gun museum.  It is also a fun place to go as you get 3 museums in one!

Here are the Museums in Utah that qualify for FREE Day:

You will need to request your FREE tickets to one of the above museums by filling out the form on the Smithsonian website. You can request two for FREE.  Many of the above attractions will let children 3,4,5, or even 6 under for free without a ticket all of the time.

Thanks Money Saving Mom

Here is the list of National Parks that you can visit on Saturday for FREE Public Lands Day:

Finally, don’t forget that Oktoberfest is still going on at Snowbird, UT! It is FREE to attend, just plan to spend money if you want to eat there, the food is good, but pricey!

city deals clearance sale

Have you heard of City Deals?

City Deals is a site where you are able to purchase discounted gift cards everyday at a 10% discount or a 10% bonus.  Cassie and I have used them for years, even before we had kids. It is one of our secret Utah savings that we are now sharing with you.  Although they offer deals nationwide, they are based in Utah.  This is good news as this means that Utah has the most selection and the biggest discounts.

The reason why it is such a stellar savings secret is that most gift cards are like cash (and can be combined with other discounts in some cases) and City Deals will have these amazing sales on these gift cards to help your dollar go further.

Every once in a while – they offer some sales and clearances on the Citydeals website. While right now they are having an incredible clearance today until items are sold out – and they sell out fast!

Utah Sales: 169 businesses on clearance right now (the local area discount gift cards sell very fast!!). Here are a few that we loved.

taco time logo

5 buck pizza logo

Remember that these are gift cards- which essentially means you are getting a discount on cash. Stretch your gift card further by combing with store coupons and discounts too when you go to use your gift cards.

They are offering deals for some nationwide stores too:

PLUS – FREE Shipping on all orders!!

Quizno’s $2.99 Combo Meal Coupon

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read our disclosure policy here.

by moreutah on July 20, 2010

quiznos sandwich

Head over to our other site and print a coupon for a complete meal at Quizno’s for only $2.99.  The  meal includes a sandwich, chips and drink for under $3! That is quite a deal for lunch.  Gather your mommy friends and have a playdate – even taking lunch to the park and enjoy this nice Utah weather while we have it! This coupon has about a 1 week expiration from your print date.

We love Quiznos – it is one of our favorite national chain sandwich shops.  I would recommend taking your meal to a park for a picnic because their seating is very limited in the restaurants.  As a family of 6, we have to break up over 2 (or more) tables just to eat inside.  But it is worth-it as everyone of us loves the sandwiches!

There are several Quizno’s Sub sandwich shops all across the state of Utah!

Iggy’s Sports Grill $25 Gift Card for Only $20 Plus Review

by moreutah on July 17, 2010

iggy's logo

There is a great deal right now to score a discount on a meal at the Iggy’s Sports Grills across Utah.  Right now you can get a $25 Iggy’s gift card for only $20 from the City Deals website to use at all 9 of the Utah locations. What a steal.

Alex and I love this restaurant! It is one of our favorite date nights locations.  We visit the Layton, UT location normally, but the atmosphere seems to be pretty universal at the locations across the state. There is a new downtown Iggys’ and the City Deals gift card deals will work for this Salt Lake City restaurant location too.

Here is what we like about Iggy’s:

  • The atmosphere appeals to both of us – starting off, you walk past a lit fire pit outside of the restaurant that sets the mood for a romantic evening. Then when you enter, you see the sports theme throughout and the big screen tvs playing the current rounds of all sports outlets around the nation. But at the same time, the atmosphere is “tropical” like with the bamboo fans and pleasantries it offers.  It doesn’t seem like it would fit together, but…. somehow it does harmoniously! For years we have commented on the atmosphere as being one of our favorites and setting the right stage for BOTH of us.

iggy's sports grill review

  • The seating is pleasant and it is a hoppin’ place, but the booths and tables are situated in such a way that make you feel like you are separate from the rest of the restaurant – especially in the oversized, stuffed booths.
  • The food is AMAZING. The complimentary starter is bread with a spicy apricot dipping sauce.  It is an incredible taste bud party in your mouth and something that we have found very unique to Iggy’s and quite memorable.  Their menu shows entrees from their gourmet burgers and brick oven pizzas, salads and sandwiches to the more exotic fare like chicken with garlic sauce artichoke and pinenuts. Even though they offer quite a nice selection and variety – we both continuously gravitate to our favorite: the Black and Bleu burger that is covered in a teriyaki glaze and topped with a creamy bleu cheese sauce and their Macadamia Nut Salmon.
  • Compared to many restaurants in Utah, the wait is not bad, even on a busy weekend night!

Here’s what we don’t like about Iggy’s:

  • It is not kid friendly – at least in our opinion.  We have actually never taken our kids.  The atmosphere does not seem like it would be conducive to having the little kiddos around.  It is a bar and grill and very much an adult-type setting. Many of the other patrons around us do not seem like they would tolerate little kids eating near them.  Of course, this could be our own “kid colored” glasses that we are seeing this through. But honestly, we want it to just kinda remain Alex and I’s secret date spot ;)
  • The prices can be a little high – we do not go often because of this. But there are ways to save at Iggy’s which help the wallet. You can download a menu from the Iggy’s website to view the prices before you go.

Ways to save at Iggy’s:

  • Buy gift cards when they become available and at a discount – like right now! A $25 gift card for $20 (you will need to pay shipping of .99)
  • Use coupons when you can (you can even use them with the gift cards as the gift cards are same-as-cash).  We find coupons for Iggy’s every once in a while in the Red Plum mailer that comes through the mail.
  • Currently, right now you can also print a coupon  off of the Iggy’s website for a FREE Chocolate Sundae at Iggy’s when you purchase 2 entrees.
  • Also, for those that like to get the draft beers, they are only $2 on Tuesdays (call your location to verify), which is a real killer deal for draft beers.
  • Sign-up for Iggy’s bucks in the restaurant. Every time you eat, your Iggy’s bucks will “add up” after you pay and you can redeem your Iggy’s bucks for free food and discounts in the future.

West Jordan, UT

We are planning to take our kids to the last three movies this summer at our location – Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Curious George.  We actually have yet to see any of them! We had the opportunity to go on a field trip to our Layton movie theatre and it was quite a memorable experience! The kids love watching the movies even more so after that experience.
